May is for Millionaires

Beginning in 1955, The Millionaire television program aired, starring Marvin Miller. In each fictional episode, the millionaire gave away a million dollars to a stranger. Many of us dream of becoming a millionaire through hard work, inheritance or a winning lottery ticket.

Another way to get a million dollars is on the game show, Who Wants to be a Millionaire? Who doesn’t! We have many wishes to fulfill with money. Some want to pay off mortgages, school loans, or pay for a long-wished-for vacation. Others want to give money to grandchildren for education, charities or non-profits.

Millionaire fun facts:

• The average age of millionaires is 62
• 3% of the US population are millionaires
• 16% inherited wealth
• New York City, Los Angeles and Chicago have the most millionaires (in that order)
• The US, China and Japan, have the most millionaires (in that order)

The song “If I Had a $1,000,000” provides lyrical ideas to listeners how to spend such a large sum of money, including a house, a tree fort, a fur coat, and a monkey among other functional and high-priced, luxury items.
